Use IrComm on Windows 7 64bit with Virtual PC/XP Mode
I have found a way to use IrComm on my 64bit windows 7 machines. The caveat you will need to be able to run Windows XP Mode. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx follow the steps outlined. When you are done you will essentially have a 32bit version of windows XP that can be hosted on top of Windows 7.
- Launch the Windows XP OS download all the latest windows updates from http://www.update.microsoft.com you may need to reboot the XP OS several times when loading updates.
- It is also a good idea to have virus protection for the XP OS, Microsoft offers a free virus protection here: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
- Download and install IRCOMM2K http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/proj...-1.2.1-eng.zip remember the port you configured, I used Com7.
- Optional: Install Java http://www.java.com/en/ If you don't do this the Paralog install will take care of it.
- Install Paralog http://www.paralog.net/
- Now close the windows XP OS by clicking the close button in the upper right had corner of the XP window. (note: you will see a window that says Hibernating.)
- Now back on your windows 7 OS go to start>all programs>Windows Virtual PC>Windows XP Mode Applications>Paralog>Paralog (Windows XP Mode). (you may choose to rightclick on this icon and pin it to your start menu or taskbar)

- Start Paralog (Windows XP Mode) Paralog will launch hosted in the window XP environment but it looks like it is on Windows7. Now all that is left is to attach the USB IR device to the virtual machine simply right click on the virtual application icon on the taskbar and choose manage USB devices. In the attach window select your IR device and click attach.

- You must attach the USB device every time you launch the virtual app.
- Now let paralog do the work.
I hope this helps and Good Luck!

Unfortunately, Windows XP mode is only available for the high-end versions of Windows (Professional/Ultimate)
However, there is an alternative. I have tried with VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org/) and it works. I am sure any other virtual machine software will work as well.
