hi there,
alti-2 recommends batteries produced by duracell among others.

but beware, especially in europe lots of duracell branded 2450 are actually made by swiss company renata.

the renata guys talk truth in their datasheets, their 2450 cells have 20% less capacity, therefore these batteries are not recommended.

duracellīs datasheets display solely the japanese made cells capacity :shake:

duracells that have "swiss made" printed on them are obviously made by renata company and therefore not recommended.

so if you go for duracells you have to look for "made in japan" printed on the batteries to really get the power your neptune deserves ;)

a good choice are also maxell batteries, which claim to be even more powerful than all of the recommended ones.

if possible buy the batteries from an industrial supplier like farnell or rs-components, for they have accurate storage methods, which is extremely important when it comes to average shelf life of lithium cells.

a "cheap" source for CR/DL2450 in Germany is Reichelt (http://www.reichelt.de). They sell them for EUR1.40 plus shipping and you typical get Panasonic or Sony cells from Japan.

I assume Reichelt has enough "throughput" so that storing should be
no issue.

On the other hand - at this price I really don't care if I have to change the battery twice a year :)

given the fact that earlier neptune software revisions had powermanagment problems lots of neptune users are sensitive regarding battery life.

even when powermanagment was improved to the perfect state of today, the then still not very accurate battery meter led lots of my neptune owners to the conclusion, that the neptune drains batteries which is wrong.

but this state of mind is not very useful when it comes to skydiving , is it?

i had to talk a lot to explain why that was not a problem.

so i prefer to give my neptune owners the best possible batteries from certified sources (reichelt should be one of those) to not only promote the neptune is a reliable altimeter but also to rule out batterie break down during freefall, regularly leading users to the wrong conclusion their neptune might be faulty.

have a look at lithium cell data sheets.
after constant current drain over a long time they break down suddenly.
i do not risk to let that happen to my neptune owners prematurely :shake:

btw:
i personally jump even cheapo junk batteries from turkish import/export shops just to check out what happens :D

but i know what i am doing, i hope....

may the electrical power be with you :)
