View Full Version : Bug in NMU (crashes when writing setting file)
Hi,
my NMU crashes, when I try to write a setting file sometimes.
I can write the filenames: "default.npc" and "NeptuneDefault.npc".
But when I try the filename: "Neptune default.npc" it crashes and I have to kill it with the task manager.
By the way, if I read the default.npc (to copy the settings of my first Neptune on my backup Neptune) I can't find anything from my first Neptune on the list.
At least not the DZ and AC names. And the climb screen setting isn't changed either.
OK, I might read the manual and might find that I expect to much from the "save settings" command, but I can't read the manual, because you have hard coded to use the acrobat reader for reading the manual.
Why that??? :poke:
I don't want acrobat reader on my system, I open all my PDF files with foxit reader. Just say windows to open the helpfile, I selected in the menu and nothing more. Windows is responsible to find a program to display the PDF help file, not the NMU.
I use NMU with version 3.1.1 on Windows Vista 32 bit.

Hi Armin,
The file name you are saving has a space in it. The NMU version about to be released allows spaces in file names. Older versions did not. Oddly, the original one did. Some oversight caused that to change, now it will work as originally intended. I apologize for the inconvenience.
You will be glad to hear we have "un hard coded" the use of Acrobat Reader. In the NMU version about to be released, you can enter the full path and file name of the program you want to use to display PDFs.
Meanwhile, to read the PDF manuals, you can go to Start->Programs->Neptune and you will find all the manuals as menu entries. The menu entries use whatever program Windows has registered for Opening that file type.
You may need to go into Foxit and find the setting for "make Foxit the default viewer for PDF files". I am not sure where to tell you to look for that, as I have never yet used Foxit. Since you are not likely the only person who uses Foxit, would you mind posting on here what you did to set it up?
Thanks,
Tim

Good to hear, but still complicated. I guess a subroutine "open manual.pdf" is too easy to program, isn't it? ;)
Manuals, to be honest, I seldom read.
But this time I have done it for you and find nothing about the File Save or Open command.
What can I expect to be saved and afterwards restored, if I load with another Neptune active?

I just installed it (download and run the exe file).
During the installation you are asked if you want it as the default viewer.
To set or toggle this later, go to the "Help"-menu and click the very first option: "Set to Default PDF Reader".

Buy the way, is there any chance to change the NMU to let the DZ and AC names be moved up or down the list even if they are already "used"?

Hi Armin,
We are currently testing NMU 3.2.3, which has improvements to the Configuration Settings area and a greatly expanded NMU manual.
If you would like it emailed to you just send me your email address. I am tim@alti-2.com
Hi Tim,
thank you very much for the offer to test the new version.
You got an email from my account some minutes ago.

Armin it is on the way to you.
In the NMU manual you will find detailed instructions on manipulating the name lists.
Also, in this version, there is way to load only the settings you want to overwrite. This makes it easy to synchronize DZ Name and AC Type lists among multiple Neptunes, without disturbing other settings.
I am looking forward to hearing how it works for you.
Also, I have installed Foxit for Windows. So far, I have found no troubles with it. It is smaller and faster than Adobe Reader versions 8 and 9.
This link leads to the Windows version:

You can also get versions for other platforms. I have not yet tried any of them. The Reader is free. They do charge for some add on tools. To read Alti-2 manuals you only need the free Reader.
Thanks for letting us know about Foxit!
Tim
