View Full Version : Problems with freefall/canopy mode

Last weekend I encountered a problem with the freefall/canopy distinction:
20 seconds before exit, the plane rapidly descended about 150m. As a result, my Neptune went into freefall mode. When the plane flew level again, my neptune thought I deployed my parachute and switched to canopy mode (I wore the Neptune as visual altimeter on this jump).
Since the Neptune doesn't switch back to freefall mode, I had to guess my altitude during freefall by watching at the 4 rapidly changing digits of the canopy display (not very convenient, but doable).

My problem is this: when using the Neptune as an audible, I won't notice this behaviour during freefall, but the freefall alarms simply won't sound if I have canopy alarms activated.
Is it possible to change the Neptune as to allow a reactivation of the freefall alarms? Another solution would be to give a distinct sound signal when changing into canopy mode. At least, I would know that my freefall alarms won't come.

Greetings

Hi Matze
If you deactivate the canopy alarms, Neptune WILL reactivate freefall alarms if the speed meets freefall criteria.

The "Swoop Mode" - now more correctly known as canopy alarms, prevented freefall alarms from going off during agreesive canopy handling.

Hi Roger, thanks for the quick reply!
Yeah, I read that Neptune will behave like this. But one criteria for buying Neptune was that I have freefall AND canopy alarms in one device. If there is no other solution, I will have to buy a second audible for swooping alarms (when not doing hop'n'pop swoops) :(

By the way:
Perhaps it is possible to only suppress freefall alarms after the first canopy alarm went off. So one could be certain that there is no premature supression of freefall alarms.
