View Full Version : Some NMU glitches

Hello

In preparation for sending in my N3 for battery service, I used NMU to download and back up all the data in the unit. In the process, I noticed a few minor glitches. I still use the software, but hopefully these comments can make it better.

First, the 'Summary' screen displays "ALL Alarms ENABLED" even though the N3 only has canopy alarms enabled (showing 'CNP' at the home screen) and even NMU itself correctly shows that only a canopy alarm has been enabled if I click on the 'Alarms' sub-screen (it even shows *No Active Freefall Alarm* at this screen). The 'Summary' screen needs to either correctly display the state of the alarms, or show no information about them at all.

Second, setting the next jump number from NMU has some usability problems. If I scroll down through the menu tree and click on the 'Set Next Jump' menu item (directly from the menu tree, without clicking on 'Log Admin' first), I see a screen with only a single text field where the next jump number is to be set. Modifying this text field and clicking 'Send' does not actually transmit any data to the N3 - it simply kicks me over to a screen titled 'Edit Jump Summary Data' (where there are more text fields, including the next jump number, which is now updated). However, in order for the changes to be sent to the N3, I must click 'Send' *again* (this time from the 'Edit Jump Summary Data' screen), and only then will the data be sent (and NMU will say "Summary Data Written"). Though the feature ultimately works correctly, the fact that you have to click 'Send' twice after updating the next jump number is not obvious (even to a software engineer :)). NMU needs to either update the summary data the first time that the user clicks 'Send', or the comment at the bottom of the 'Set Next Jump' screen needs to say that the user must click 'Send' at this screen and then do the same again at the following screen for the change to take effect (currently it simply says "Remember to click Send to update your Neptune with any changes you make here" which is misleading in this context).

I hope this is useful for the next version
